We are all forced to face the question, "Is Christian faith viable in light of modern scientific understanding?" The real conflict is not between science and Christian faith--it is between materialism and Christian faith. Though it is true that many scientists are materialists, materialism is not science. Herein is reviewed some of the most compelling scientific observations obtained from 45 years of space research and exploration. Tour our Solar System--looking down on the planets from orbiting probes and peering out at alien landscapes from rovers placed on the surface of distant worlds. Look through the NASA Hubble and Chandra space telescopes almost to the limit of the visible universe. Then consider the creation account, given in Genesis Chapter One, in the light of what has been observed together with some of the most fundamental laws of nature, and discover that there is no rational conflict--no logical defeaters for Christian faith.

This is a wonderful book! It really makes you think about why you believe what you do. I love how it explains "Why?". The in-depth look at the solar system is very interesting. I will recommend this book to anyone who would like to have a deeper understanding about God and creationProduct details

Genesis 1 and Lessons From Space by PhD Nobie H Stone 20140504 PhD Nobie H Stone 9781936548170 Books Reviews
There is much good in this book and some bad.
The good This book should cause us Christians to think a little more carefully about our rejection of science, including evolution. For instance, when we see apparent contradictions between science and the Bible, we should consider whether those contradictions are really just contradictions between our _interpretation_ of science and our _interpretation_ of the Bible. The facts aren't going to change, and the Bible isn't going to change. But our interpretations of both of those do change.
For instance, we used to think the Bible teaches against heliocentrism. Perhaps someday, more of us will say the same thing about evolution. We should consider, since we know God made everything that exists, then, if evolution really does exist, then God made it. So what if that also means our interpretation of the Bible regarding evolution is wrong?
The bad My understanding about entropy and the Second Law of Thermodynamics is that the universe was in its lowest state of entropy at the first point of its existence (the "Big Bang") and has only increased in its entropy ever since. What we see now as "increased order," with our earth in a state to support life, is only a _perception_ of reduced entropy (which would contradict the Second Law). We like what we see now because we can live in it and we could not live right after the Big Bang. No, entropy is not measured by how much we _dislike_ what we see, as the author seems to do.
Another bad the book uses reason to conclude that we can use reason. This is circular. He uses the conclusion he wishes to reach before he has proved that he can use it. The first two chapters should be read with some caution.
It is my view that a good use of reason is to examine whether we can trust human reason to reliably determine truths that can be trusted, as if they were pronounced by God. Further, I think we have used reason to over-interpret the Bible, especially regarding evolution, and have produced doctrines that are not really in the Bible. I do agree with the author that, "we should not put words into the mouth of revelation."
Worth reading.

Edit I wrote Dr. Stone asking whether he did use a circular argument. He confirmed that he did
"It is true that I used reason to arrive at the conclusion that God accepts a reasonable, or evidence-based, faith; but to deny this is to say that all conclusions regarding the need to use good logic in making decisions, developing opinions; etc., must be obtained without reason or, alternatively, one must justify reason by a non-rational process or justify thinking without thinking." (Email 9/16/15.)
I wrote back, saying that, since human reason tells us that we may not use circular reason, human reason tells us that we may not use human reason to justify the use of human reason.
I further suggested, if a person _does_ use reason and so learns that God exists, it is only because the Spirit of God empowered him to see arguments for God.
"The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because _they are spiritually discerned._" (1 Corinthians 214)
For whatever reason, he did not reply to that. His talks continue to contain his circular argument, and still do not mention the power of God to change people.
Still worth reading, but with caution. (This review is my opinion.)
While I may not agree with all points I found this book very informative and enjoyed reading it. The book is well written so that you do not need a long list of degrees and titles to understand what the author is talking about. In my opinion it is well worth the read.
As a Biology major / Chemistry minor, this is an outstanding book. To summarize, the book simply makes the case that science can be used as support for God's existence. The book does not 100% prove God's existence using science. If it did, everyone would believe in God and there would be no need for faith. Apparent in some of these other reviews, anyone can find something to try to poke holes in any opinion/argument/etc. It's a great book. Worth the read.
This is Granddaddy saying that I've read (and studied) the very useful _Genesis 1 and Lessons From Space_ book from cover to cover. It starts by explaining why I should investigate (analyze) the evidence, then advocates an excellent approach for a Biblical faith. But, reading both Prefaces is a better starting point. It is thorough in defining it's terminology.
Nobie has been a friend for several years. Over ten years ago he wrote a lesson book (for which he wrote improved versions several times) along with concomitant PPTs to present excellent material explaining the coalesce of faith and science that he learned as a Bible student and a cosmos physicist, which are only two of his many areas of expertise.
The book's indices include Name, Scripture, and Subject, pointing to its excellent reference material. This book rightfully joins a great apologetics library with valuable information worthy of anyone's analysis.
This is a wonderful book! It really makes you think about why you believe what you do. I love how it explains "Why?". The in-depth look at the solar system is very interesting. I will recommend this book to anyone who would like to have a deeper understanding about God and creation
